Recent CCG visits in Brazil & Ethiopia
Henry Huiyao Wang & Mabel Lu Miao attend forums and meet scholars, diplomats, and journalists.
Below are some recent visits by Henry Huiyao Wang, Founder and President of the Centre for China and Globalisation (CCG), and Mabel Lu Miao, Secretary-General of CCG, in Brazil and Ethiopia, following visits in Germany and the UK.
Brazil
On October 9, Wang and Miao attended the Horasis Global Meeting 2025 in São Paulo, Brazil.
At the plenary session on October 9 titled “Co-Creating Solutions for Global Challenges,” Wang delivered a keynote speech.
On the same day, Miao spoke at the thematic session titled “The Global South: The World’s New Growth Engine.”
On October 9, Wang was also interviewed by Valor Econômico, Brazil’s largest financial newspaper。
On October 10, at the invitation of Itaú Unibanco — Brazil’s largest bank — and Banco Bradesco, the country’s second largest bank, Wang and Miao held meetings in São Paulo with senior executives from both institutions.
On October 11, Wang and Miao attended a welcome luncheon hosted by Centro Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais (CEBRI) for the CCG delegation in Rio de Janeiro. The event was chaired by Marcos Caramuru de Paiva, a Member of the International Advisory Board at CEBRI and former Ambassador of Brazil to China, and attended by Luiz Augusto de Castro Neves, President of the Brazil–China Business Council (CEBC), former CEBRI President, and former Ambassador of Brazil to China, along with several Brazilian scholars and think tank representatives.
On October 13, Wang attended the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC) 2025 annual conference in Sao Paulo. and delivered a keynote speech titled “China and Brazil in a New Phase of Partnership: From Broad Trade to Deep Economic Cooperation.”
Zhu Qingqiao, Ambassador of China to Brazil, and Luiz Augusto de Castro Neves, President of CEBC and former Ambassador of Brazil to China, gave opening and closing remarks respectively.
Later, Wang joined Marcos Caramuru de Paiva, former Ambassador of Brazil to China, discussing a range of geo-economic issues of broad concern to Brazil’s business community.
Upon their return, CCG received a delegation from Brazil’s Lula Institute on October 20. The delegation was led by Ivone Silva, President of the Institute and included Ana Flávia Marques, Director for Latin America and Africa Affairs, and Caroline Cicarello, Advisor to the President.
Ethiopia
On October 15, Wang visited the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, where he met with Chargé d’Affaires Sun Mingxi and Minister-Counsellor Liu Xiaoguang.
On the same day, Wang met with Teferi Melesse, former Ambassador of Ethiopia to the United Kingdom, in Addis Ababa, and visited the headquarters of the African Union (AU).
On October 15, Wang also visited the Huajian Group Industrial Park in Addis Ababa, where he held discussions with Zhang Huarong, Chairman of Huajian Group.
