Henry Huiyao Wang & Mabel Lu Miao deliver lectures, meet scholars in California
From 9 to 11 February 2026, Henry Huiyao Wang, Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), and Mabel Lu Miao, Co-founder and Secretary-General, visited the United States.
The three-day trip covered Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. Wang and Miao held discussions with representatives from U.S. strategic, academic, business, think tank, media, and international-organisation communities on topics including China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, global economic order, and China–U.S. relations.
Day 1
On 9 February, the CCG delegation visited the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and delivered a keynote address at a luncheon co-hosted by UCI and the Long U.S.-China Institute.
Established in 2010 by John S. and Marilyn Long, the Long U.S.-China Institute is dedicated to studying contemporary Chinese society, politics, and culture in all of its complexity. It is intent on fostering bilateral engagement between China and the U.S., and it supports scholarship and events that facilitate mutual understanding and that highlight a diversity of voices and disciplinary approaches.
Day 2
On the second day of the visit, Wong delivered a lecture at the 21st Century China Center, UC San Diego, on China’s new Five-Year Plan.
The mission of the 21st Century China Center is to produce and disseminate impactful evidence-based research about China, and to enhance U.S.-China mutual understanding by advancing scholarly collaboration, convening policy discussions, and actively communicating with policymakers and the general public in both countries.
During the event, Wang met with Susan Shirk, Honorary Director of the UCSD 21st Century China Center, and Victor C. Shih, its Director.
Barry Naughton, So Kwan Lok Chair of Chinese International Affairs School of Global Policy and Strategy, UC San Diego, and Tai Ming Cheung, director of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) and a professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego, also joined the discussion.
Day 3
On 11 February, the visit concluded in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wang attended a seminar on “U.S.-China Relations in the 21st Century”, co-hosted by the Bay Area Council and Asia Society Northern California, where he delivered a keynote address.
The seminar drew close to 100 participants from universities, companies, the investment community, and the media.
