On 26 October 2026, the Center for China and Globalization (CCG)’s Committee on Chinese Enterprises Going Global held a special briefing on China–Europe investment opportunities.
Vuk Jeremić, former Serbian Foreign Minister and President of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly, and Srđan Šaper, editor-in-chief of Serbia’s Horizons magazine and a prominent European entrepreneur, attended the event and delivered keynote presentations. Representatives of more than ten Chinese companies also participated in the discussion.
The event was chaired by Mabel Lu Miao, CCG co-founder and secretary-general. Participants exchanged views on Serbia’s investment environment, opportunities for Chinese companies expanding into European markets, China–Serbia industrial cooperation, and potential areas of collaboration, including artificial intelligence (AI).
Jeremić said that Serbia and China had maintained long-standing and stable cooperative relations. Against the backdrop of ongoing adjustments in China–Europe economic and trade relations, Serbia could play a unique role in connecting China and Europe, providing a platform for businesses on both sides to establish partnerships and pursue industrial cooperation. Chinese companies had already invested in and undertaken projects in Serbia in mining, railways, roads, and infrastructure. Further opportunities for cooperation existed in AI, information technology, data centres and digital government.
Addressing recent political developments in Serbia and their potential impact on China–Serbia relations, Jeremić said that Serbia’s policy towards China had remained consistent and that changes in government would not alter the fundamental direction of bilateral relations. He noted that the relationship had remained stable over the long term, with close political and economic ties between China and Serbia representing an important advantage for the country. He encouraged Chinese companies to follow developments during Serbia’s political transition and actively plan their investment and cooperation arrangements for 2027.
Jeremić also introduced plans for a China–Europe Investment Forum to be held in Belgrade in May 2027. The forum aims to bring together businesses, government representatives and academics from China, Serbia and across Europe to promote dialogue, build connections and advance practical cooperation. CCG will serve as a partner of the forum and invite Chinese companies to attend the event and related exchanges in Serbia.
Šaper said that Serbia not only maintained good relations with China but also had internationally competitive IT professionals and technology companies. These resources could create favourable conditions for Chinese companies to pursue technological cooperation, talent exchanges and joint projects in Europe. He also stressed that cultural, ecological and people-to-people exchanges could foster greater mutual understanding between the two societies and provide a broader social foundation for business cooperation.
During the discussion, representatives from iSoftStone, Tianhe Solar and Beijing Zhidian Education raised questions about the impact of recent political developments on China–Serbia relations, Chinese investment and technological cooperation. They also explored opportunities and changes in policies and regulations in areas including AI, digital government and IT infrastructure, new energy, and corporate talent needs. Representatives from more than ten companies and organisations attended the event, including the China Semiconductor Industry Association, the Hebei Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, the Tongzhou District International Chamber of Commerce, Far East Holding and Huaxing Communications.
On 18–19 June 2026, CCG founder Henry Huiyao Wang and co-founder and secretary-general Mabel Lu Miao attended the Horizons Sustainability and Connectivity Forum in Belgrade, Serbia. The forum was organised by the Centre for International Relations and Sustainable Development (CIRSD), chaired by Vuk Jeremić.
CCG and CIRSD have maintained close exchanges and cooperation over the years. On 20 March 2026, CCG and Horizons, a publication of CIRSD, jointly hosted a CCG Global Dialogue at CCG headquarters in Beijing.
