Join Germany’s Parliamentary voices on the June 15 exchange themed "Ukraine, Iran and the Future of Global Order: Perspectives from China and Europe"
Amid rising conflicts and great-power rivalry roiling global economy and security, credible insights from core policymakers have never been more needed to cut through geopolitical uncertainties.
The global geopolitical landscape is undergoing its most profound transformation since the end of the Cold War. The protracted war in Ukraine and escalating tensions across the Middle East have compounded mounting risks to regional security and global stability. Against such a volatile backdrop, strategic dialogue among major powers carries unprecedented importance. Only through candid communication and consensus-building can viable solutions to ongoing crises be explored to anchor global peace.
Jens Spahn, Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, will pay a visit to China in the near future leading a delegation of six high-ranking Members of Parliament from the CDU party. Taking this opportunity, a luncheon roundtable will be hosted on June 15, 2026 for exchanges themed Ukraine, Iran and the Future of Global Order: Perspectives from China and Europe. The Center for China and Globalization (CCG) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung will facilitate an open discussion platform for all participating attendees.
As the major force within Germany’s ruling coalition, the policy stances of Mr. Spahn and the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group directly shape Germany’s and the European Union’s diplomatic trajectories. Attending this luncheon enables you to access exclusive value as below:
1. First-hand policymaker intelligence: Distinct from fragmented media coverage and academic theoretical analysis, the lawmakers will share firsthand experience and insider observations from Europe’s top decision-making circle. Mr. Spahn led an official delegation to Kyiv in September this year for closed-door meetings with President Volodymyr Zelensky and senior Ukrainian cabinet officials, granting him authoritative insights into battlefield dynamics, Western aid frameworks for Ukraine, and tangible obstacles to viable peace negotiations.
2. Targeted high-end networking: Participants comprise senior diplomats, business leaders, academia fellows and think tank specialists from China, Germany and the European Union, spanning diplomacy, energy, finance and international trade sectors. The event serves as both an intellectual summit and an elite platform for viewpoint exchange and high-value connection building.
3. Intimate interactive closed-door format: Strictly capped attendance ensures premium communication efficiency. Moving past conventional one-way keynote delivery, ample Q&A time is reserved for open discussion and direct intellectual debates with the MPs.
4. Forward-looking trend projections: Drawing on latest global developments, the CDU decision-makers will unpack the far-reaching implications of Donald Trump’s second presidential term on transatlantic ties, the Ukraine war and broader global geopolitics, delivering actionable reference for corporate strategy and personal decision-making.
Welcome Remarks: Jens Spahn
Jens Spahn ranks among Germany’s most influential contemporary statesmen with over two decades of parliamentary service and an extensive cabinet governance track record. He is renowned for pragmatic policymaking and strategic foresight. Elected to the German Bundestag for the first time in 2002, he has held pivotal portfolios across Germany’s core federal ministries:
· Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance (2015–2018): Central contributor to European economic governance architecture and EU fiscal policymaking;
· Federal Minister of Health under Angela Merkel’s cabinet (2018–2021): Oversaw Germany’s nationwide pandemic response amid the global COVID-19 outbreak and demonstrated outstanding crisis governance capabilities.
In May 2025, Mr. Spahn was elected by an overwhelming majority as Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group – the largest parliamentary faction by the party of Chancellor Friedrich Merz - cementing Mr. Spahn’s role as a linchpin of Germany’s ruling coalition with decisive input on major German and EU foreign policy formulation and implementation as well as domestic reforms.
On international affairs, Mr. Spahn advocates a pragmatic foreign policy. He affirms any viable peace settlement for Ukraine must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while repeatedly acknowledging China’s irreplaceable leverage as a UN Security Council Permanent Member in facilitating Russia–Ukraine peace talks. Concerning Iran’s nuclear dossier, he consistently backs diplomatic de-escalation, opposes nuclear proliferation, and calls for coordinated global efforts to sustain long-term peace and stability across the Middle East.
