EU-China Think-Tank Exchanges hold Beijing session
CCG and EPC jointly host discussions with experts from European and Chinese think tanks, universities, and research institutes on 11 May 2026.
On Monday, 11 May 2026, a Beijing session of the EU-China Think Tank Exchanges, funded by the European Union, was held at the Beijing Administrative Centre office of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG). The event was jointly organised by CCG, the programme’s only Chinese co-beneficiary, and the European Policy Centre (EPC).
The programme opened with remarks from Henry Huiyao Wang, Founder & President of CCG, and Declan Kelleher, Chair of the Governing Board of EPC and former Irish Ambassador to China.
The first session, titled “EU-China relations in an era of strategic uncertainty,” was moderated by Declan Kelleher.
Speakers included Henry Huiyao Wang; Long Jing, Deputy Director, Center for European Studies, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies; Raoul Bunskoek, Head of Clingendael China Centre, Clingendael Institute; and Justyna Szczudlik, Deputy Head of Research, Head of Asia-Pacific Programme and China Analyst, Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).
The second session, “Managing trade imbalances on EU-China relations,” was moderated by Mabel Lu Miao, Co-founder & Secretary-General of CCG.
Speakers were Daniela Schwarzer, Board Member, Bertelsmann Stiftung; Peng Wensheng, Chief Economist, China International Capital Corporation Limited, and Dean of CICC Global Institute; Victor De Decker, Research Fellow, Egmont Institute; and Yan Shaohua, Associate Professor & Deputy Director, Center for China-Europe Relations, Fudan University.
Following lunch, the third session, “Navigating new geostrategic challenges in EU-China relations: together or apart?” was moderated by Shen Wei, Qiushi Chair Professor, Zhejiang University.
Speakers included Bernhard Bartsch, Director, External Relations, Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS); Ignacio Molina, Senior Fellow, Elcano Royal Institute; Francesca Maremonti, Research Fellow for Asia, Global Actors Programme, Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI); Cao Hui, Assistant Professor, Institute of European Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Wang Yiwei, Jean Monnet Chair Professor, Director of the Institute of International Affairs and Center for European Studies, Renmin University; and Sun Chenghao, Associate Professor and Head of the U.S.-Europe Program, Center for International Security and Strategy, Tsinghua University.
As part of the programme, CCG also invited participants to visit the Beijing “Two Zones” Development Exhibition, which presents the city’s work on the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Greater Openness in the Services Sector and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and Sanjiao Temple Park in Tongzhou.
