All Welcome | Michael Morris (Online) × Henry Huiyao Wang: Navigating Our Instinct for Connection in a Polarised World
A conversation on Tribal: How the Cultural Instincts That Divide Us Can Help Bring Us Together
The core argument Michael Morris makes in Tribal: How the Cultural Instincts That Divide Us Can Help Bring Us Together—that culture is malleable, not a fixed destiny—is impressive and offers new hope for thinking about global cooperation.
As this acclaimed work has just been released in Chinese by CITIC Press Group (click to buy), a much broader audience in China can now engage with these vital ideas on how cultural instincts shape the modern world. It is, therefore, particularly timely to host this conversation now.
In the upcoming dialogue on 16 January 2026, Michael Morris, Chavkin-Chang Professor of Leadership at Columbia Business School and Professor in the Psychology Department of Columbia University, and Henry Huiyao Wang, Founder and President of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), will explore the core argument in Tribal and explore topics of tribal instincts and bridging East and West; the tribal roots of political polarization and identity politics; geopolitics, historical narratives, and the Venezuela case, as well as the new tribes in the technological age and humanity’s common future.
